About

About Dr. Kincheloe

Amy Kincheloe, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in comprehensive psychoeducational and diagnostic evaluations, as well as gifted testing, for children and adolescents. Her work focuses on understanding each child's unique cognitive profile and the complex interplay of intellectual abilities, learning, attention, executive functioning, and social-emotional development. She has extensive experience assessing intellectual giftedness and evaluating children with a range of learning, attentional, developmental, and emotional concerns, including ADHD, learning disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and anxiety.

Dr. Kincheloe believes that a meaningful evaluation should be as individual as the child being assessed. Rather than relying on a predetermined battery of tests, she thoughtfully designs each evaluation around the child's developmental history, unique strengths and challenges, and the specific questions that parents and educators are seeking to answer. Her approach integrates comprehensive testing, clinical observations, developmental and educational history, and input from parents and teachers to develop a nuanced understanding of each child's functioning. She is particularly attentive to the ways in which different aspects of a child's development may interact, overlap, or contribute to the challenges they experience.

For Dr. Kincheloe, the goal of an evaluation extends well beyond identifying a diagnosis or reporting test scores. She strives to help families understand not only what a child may be struggling with, but why those challenges are occurring and what can be done to help. She places particular emphasis on translating complex findings into clear, practical recommendations that families, educators, and other professionals can use to support the child's success. Equally important, she wants families to leave the evaluation process with a fuller appreciation of their child's strengths and a clearer understanding of the path forward. Recognizing the importance of timely answers and guidance, she thoughtfully structures her evaluation schedule so that families typically receive a completed written report and comprehensive feedback session within two weeks of testing, often in approximately 10 days.

Dr. Kincheloe earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with highest academic distinction and highest honors, and completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Emory University. Prior to joining Atlanta Children's Center in 2019, she served as a Senior Psychologist at the Marcus Autism Center and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. Her clinical experience includes extensive work with children and adolescents presenting with complex developmental, learning, attentional, and emotional concerns.
