About Dr. Aoki
Dr. Aoki is a board certified clinical child/adolescent psychologist who provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for children, adolescents, and young adults. She specializes in understanding and supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental differences including early developmental delays, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, and intellectual disability. Her clinical expertise also addresses emotional and behavioral concerns, such as anxiety, emotion dysregulation, and low self-esteem. Dr. Aoki understands that each child and family are unique; thus, she adopts a tailored approach that thoughtfully considers cultural and individual differences. She strongly values parent involvement, collaboration with important providers in your child’s life, and open communication. In the assessment and therapy room, Dr. Aoki creates a fun and safe environment while creatively tapping into your child’s strengths to support their areas of growth. With older adolescents and young adults, she places greater emphasis on helping individuals recognize and embrace who they are while developing skills that promote self-advocacy, meaningful social relationships, and greater independence. She adheres to evidence-based assessment and therapeutic practices, using a variety of methods to meet each individual’s needs and interests that include visual supports, psychoeducation, personalized worksheets and activities, and/or naturalistic opportunities in play and daily routines.
Dr. Aoki received two bachelor's degrees from the University of California, Davis in Psychology and Neurobiology and her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University. She completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship in Health Service Psychology through the Emory University School of Medicine. As a clinical psychologist at the Marcus Autism Center, Dr. Aoki provided diagnostic assessments for youth presenting with developmental differences, established a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) clinic, provided parenting support, and served as co-chair of the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee of the internship program. She then joined the Atlanta Children's Center in late 2022. Dr. Aoki is a certified UCLA PEERS and RUBI Parent Training Program clinician.
